About abby macneill
Abby is a violinist and private violin and viola instructor, founder and owner of Bloom & Grow Violin Studio. Abby started playing the violin at 5 years old. Her dedicated mother brought her to private lessons each week, group lessons each month, and later to youth orchestras and music camps. Abby learned through the Suzuki Method, and from an early age developed a sensitive ear because of that training.
Abby has a B.A. in music from Eastern University. Abby also spent a year at Temple University's Esther Boyer College of Music & Dance, before transferring to Eastern. Abby has studied with former and current members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, including concertmaster, David Kim. Abby gained vast orchestral and chamber music experience through her college career, and has since played with local community orchestras such as the Main Line Symphony, Providence Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Concordia, Amici Strings, and most recently the Montgomery County Chorale and Orchestra. She also enjoys playing quartets for weddings and events. Abby has taken training in the Suzuki Method and is registered with the SAA and is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Suzuki Association.
Abby lives and teaches in Telford, PA, about an hour outside of Philadelphia, with her husband Josh and three children: Mather, Nora, and Sawyer. In addition to playing the violin she enjoys gardening, reading, doing yoga, and learning about health and wellness.
Teaching Philosophy
Abby believes that any child can learn to play an instrument, through dedication, hard work, and having fun. Abby strives to instill these qualities into her students, so that they can bring these life skills into other areas of their ever-growing lives. It's not just about playing the violin. These skills are essential for growing happy and healthy humans! Abby's approach to teaching is non-judgmental, patient, and loving. It's with these qualities that great musicians can be formed, and creativity and love of music will bloom! Parental involvement is required and highly valued (the Suzuki Triangle)- child, parent, teacher. With the right support network the child will thrive musically and emotionally.
